Clean Bill of Health

Good news. I’m officially well again. To find that out I had to spend the better part of yesterday dopey on sedatives, but it was definitely worth it.

As a result of that, I don’t really have much to say. But I thought I’d share.

The Glorious Return of Me

Welcome to Monday. I’ve decided to ease myself back into posting slowly today, so as not to overwhelm myself with the sheer joy of sharing my little world with you again. Just as a side note, there are emails I received during my absence and I’m steadily catching up but it’s taking a while because of other commitments. If I haven’t got to you yet, I promise I will.

Yesterday I took a trip in to the city to my favourite book store (I’m seriously going to miss that place, let me tell you) and caved in to my inner fangirl. Ever since its release I’d been holding off on buying Petrodor (Joel Shepherd) because I wanted to wait until it was released in mass-market paperback. I’m allowed to be stingy, don’t judge, but that’s not why. My copy of Sasha is mass-market. I hate having trilogies or series in mixed sizes. Yes, that’s strangely picky of me. But what can you do?

I knew I wasn’t going to be able to kick off with a review, since a day isn’t long enough for me to read a book and let it sit so I can give a considered opinion. But I wanted to put a little note in my sidebar about how that was what I was reading.

It’s not what I’m reading though. What I’m reading is a manuscript by a fellow aspiring writer. It’s a good book, actually, so I’m not too displeased about it. It makes me feel woefully inadequate, of course, but that’s a good thing. It gives me something to work towards.

So that’s what I’m doing today. Hardly warrants a post really, but a promise is a promise. Hopefully I’ll be able to update my little sidebar with the happy news I’m reading Petrodor tomorrow.

Egocentric

We interrupt your regularly scheduled internet to bring you this utterly pointless message.

I noticed something strange this morning. On this, my personal blog, I actually make very little mention of me as a person. I talk about things which catch my attention, I update what I’ve been up to with the writing, I offer opinions on things I read or watch, but I seldom talk about myself. Even my About page is lacking in any real, tangible information. So now I bring you a probably one-off post: Things I bet you didn’t know about me.

I love languages. On top of the words I randomly develop temporary attachments to (current favourite: preposterous) I have a list of the top ten languages I want to learn in my lifetime. So far I’ve only made a start on 3 and they’ve fallen by the wayside but I still hold on to that dream of learning all ten.

There’s no point to the learning. I don’t have the money to travel to countries where they might prove necessary, or at least useful. Once upon a time I toyed with the idea of becoming an interpreter but that wasn’t through any desire to be an interpreter, I just wanted an excuse to learn those languages.

It’s a strange goal, learning languages. I have no great fondness for people so it has nothing to do with any desire to be able to communicate. If I wanted to make something up, I could suggest it would maximise my chances of one day being published — I could spam every publisher in the world with my manuscripts, not just the English-speaking ones. But really, I just want to learn.

So there you go. Something you didn’t know about me until today.
